Prosecution’s Arguments:
- Wilbert Coffin was seen in Gaspé with Richard Lindsey.
- Wilbert Coffin had taken a few articles out of Lindsey’s Truck (including a rifle).
- Wilbert had spent $60.00 (US) on a trip to Montreal ($40.00 given to him by Richard Lindsey and the other $20.00 from cheques that he cashed at the bar of the Baker Hotel).
- What happened to the other $500/$600 (US) that Eugene Lindsey might have carried it?
- Wilbert Coffin had no fear spending the $60.00 (US) on the Montreal trip.
- Wilbert Coffin also had no fear in showing Richard Lindsey’s gadget knife to Benny White, Mrs. Coffin and his sister Rhoda Coffin.
- Nobody had ever seen Wilbert Coffin take a 32/30 Marlin or any other weapon into the woods before or after the Lindsey party arrived in Gaspé. Reports from pathologists established that a handgun could have been the weapon used to kill the two boys.
- The first verdict of the Inquest Jury was that a person or persons unknown to them killed the victims.
- At least two Inquest Jurors had voted against the second verdict.
